job application

my friend paul told me about this job opportunity. it looks very attractive!! Of course I’m applying! I wrote my cover letter yesterday. I asked andy to read it so he could correct my grammar mistakes. He was laughing so loud afterwards I thought I made some silly mistake again. But he said the letter had absolutely no grammar error and it sounded like an example of a cover letter in a college text book. he kept laughing.. i was thoroughly perplexed at what was so funny about THAT?!

i need to polish up my resume! i think i will use echirps and the social work site as my two work samples.

abuse of women

after two and half hours of reading the international relations textbook, i’ve faced many negative facts about the world. among all, the most disturbing story was still Fauziya Kassindja‘s. perhaps because i’m also a woman, knowing that such abuse still exists in the world truly frightens me. i could feel my body trembling and my feet turning cold while i was reading. abuse of women is actively exercised in many other parts of the world. another vivid image i encountered was a picture of two Pakistani women. under the picture, it stated: This shocking photograph shows two victims of domestic abuse, Husrat Parveen and Tasneen Bibi in a Pakistani hospital. Parveen had her nose cut off by her husband, and Bibi had acid thrown in her face by her in-laws. Parveen’s hushand, enraged when she complained about his bad temper, tied her to her bed, cut off her hair to humiliate her, then sliced off her nose. When she was able to escape, she went to the police, but they refused to press charges after Parveen’s husband denounced her as an evil woman. Bibi’s in-laws offered no explanation other than that she had displeased her husband. The burns were so serious that one operation had to be done to separate her cheek from her shoulder after the acid had fused her skin. Like Parveen’s husband, Bibi’s in-laws were not prosecuted.

pure essence winter

shameless plug. if you don’t see the new “winter” theme coz your cookie is set to another theme, click here. i worked on this layout since last nite. i really want to work on layers of photos again coz i haven’t done that in a LONG TIME ;) I’m pretty pleased with the turn out. i guess i’m still more fond with layers than vectors. but either works. i just have to spend more time learning vectors this winter break.

while i was putting up the layout, i watched theplay-by-play gamecast at ESPN. iowa’s been doing so well. i couldn’t stand missing the game. coz i listened to the opening of the game, iowa scored a touchdown in less than 2 and half minutes. they didn’t even have to do second down, they went straight to first down. MUAHAHAH.. iowa hasn’t won a game against minnesota in 8 years and they are truly kicking their asses this time. bombarded them with long rushes and interceptions. Fred Russell’s longest rush was 47 YARDS! wow.. how sweet. last week iowa beat Northwestern 62 to 10. iowa’s doing so well this season, it makes me excited. GO HAWKS GO HAWKS!

thanksgiving plan?

thanksgiving is getting close. i remembered last year andy and i cooked our own turkey dinner and invited a few friends and my dad. only three of them ended up showing up and we didn’t know what to do with all the leftover. cold turkey is NOT tasty. eek.. so we are not cooking turkey this year. i’m looking forward to get together with andy’s relatives tho. it’s the ONE time of the year i get to be in a big crowd. andy’s relatives are very loving. they are a bunch of huggers hehe… since andy’s dad’s the ONLY BOY in his generation, all the sisters always compete for the best aunts hehe :) tho i have a few cousins, since my mom never got along with them, i experienced NO CLOSE family contacts with my dad’s side of family and my mom is a single child. it makes me feel so good to get together with some “relatives”… almost =P

I GOT MY CAM

i finally got my new webcam. the quality is SO MUCH better than my old cam!! and it’s the same price. if you are looking for a cam, i’d DEFINITELY recommend it. $40 plus shipping.. the regular price is $100. lele said it’s coz there’s a new model out and they are eager to get rid of the old. but as you can see, it’s still a very quality cam!
