say bye to the horror of partition

after hearing my professor’s comments about parititioning hard drive, i finally realized what a mistake i made listening to my father to make the c drive a tiny paritition on my old hard drive. originally my father agrued that if i keep the c partition small, the OS doesn’t have to look far to start and shut down so it would increase the performance. it sounded like a valid reason but little did i know about how windows work. whenever you install software on your computer, even if it’s not on the c drive, some files still automatically go into the windows system folder which will make your c drive grow constantly. i gave my c drive 4gb of partition (which was considered ideal by my dad). it soon was consumed leaving me no space to download security updates. i also frequently got low disk space warning. the worst was trying to install apache & mysql on my E drive. that was a total nightmare. my professor said it was totally not worth it partitioning your hard drive at all. there’s no need. he used to do the same thing and only realized he had to waste much time doing book keeping while the performance didn’t really improve dramatically. “windows is the stupidest operating system; so just handle it the most basic way possible. leave everything as defaults otherwise you are just giving yourself trouble” – my professor. after hearing his words, i was suddenly enlightened. i’ve been wanting to install perl on my computer so i can run perl scripts at command line. but i had no space on the C drive and i certainly didn’t want to go through the pain installing it on E drive so i waited until i got my new hard drive.

The BlogMatch Project

Hello everyone, my first graduate level project is now opening to the public!! (I feel like celebrating with fireworks; I really have been working hard on this!!!) It’s called The BlogMatch Project. Much like match.com, it matches people through “reading” their blogs. This matching is for online friendship. Once you joined BlogMatch, it will search for blogs that contain your interests. It also will search for blogs contain unique terms which you are talking about on your blog. It will notify you by email if such matches occur. You can decide whether you wish to read the matched blogs. I hope this service will help you find more personal blogs that better fit your interests. Right now the matching part is still under construction because I need people to sign up first. The registration is free! If you are interested in finding more interesting personal blogs, PLEASE DON’T HESITATE TO SIGN UP!! Because I set a goal for 50 new members by next Tuesday for the class which this project is written for, I’m offering a promotion. The first 50 approved members will be plugged on pure-essence.net (google rank: 6/10) for a minimum of 10 days!! To be an approved member you need to submit your blog and after I approve you, you will have to LOG IN to demonstrate the email address you used to sign up with is valid. Referring to other people will gain you more plug. Read more here!

dnw alarm me!

an original self inspired script turned out to be quite some work. i spent two days finishing a script that offers you calendar management, event email reminder for free. i think it’s quite useful. of course i wrote this originally because i like to have my appointments reminded via email. since i check my email more often than anything. and since that i don’t use yahoo service any more, i can’t use their reminder service. so i decided to write one myself. a separate service for any email addresses. there’s something more to it as well. if you like to keep an event list on your web site (see my example), it’s now easier than ever. the script automatically lists your events and cross out old ones for you. all you have to do is link it with a line of javascript code.

fainting (again) yesterday

i was gonna write this yesterday but i told the entire thing so many different times to so many different people, i got tired of restating it. i first had to tell the lady who helped me what caused it, and then to the doctor, then to all my teachers because i want them to know that i will miss their class and appointment. then andy…

but yea i fainted and threw up at school yesterday. thankfully some kind lady took me to the student health center with a cab or i don’t know how i could have made it.

my old teacher's email

OMG, i can not believe it. i just got an email from my teacher in middle school in china. i always loved and respected him. altho he’s only been my teacher for ONE year, he taught me so much. i gained much confidence and maturity in the one year i spent with him. i tried to find his contact info when i went to china two summers ago, but i couldn’t. because he left the middle school i was in the year i left china and then he moved around too often for any of my classmates to track.

i realize he found my email address from my best friend in china (who was also his student). it’s just completely shocking and joyful to get his email. altho he’s my english teacher, he chose to write me in chinese. he called me “little zhang ying” in the email. hehehe.. now i just need to write him letters in chinese in return. uhoh, my poor chinese typing speed. but i have so much to tell him.

refreshing monday

i think it was extremely refreshing for me to see the blue sky and beautiful sunshine and feel the breeze this morning. you have no idea how cold it was last week. today it is more like a reasonable autumn day and it makes me happy ^_^

yesterday i spent 3 hours scrubbing the stove, the kitchen floor, the toliet, the bathtub and the bathroom floor. scrubbing the toliet is definitely the bomb. a little poo stain here and there only added more excitement right? LOL ok i’m gross. but pure physical tasks help to clear things off your mind.

this morning when i woke up, i turned over. i found myself hugging my carebear on the other side of the bed. it seems andy had replaced himself with the carebear again when he left this morning. hehe he’s always so cute. he’s done this before. and when i asked him, he said: well, when your bear is not around, at least you’ve got another bear to hug. it’s just so sweet when i think about it. the other day i was crying about something. so i woke him up at 3am. he didn’t get any more sleep before going to work at 8am. i apologized to him later for keeping him up and he said: well if i am not there for my poopoo, i don’t know what i’m good for. ^_^ life is just so beautiful when you have someone like andy by your side.
