another ying zhang?
August 31st, 2004
it’s so unbelievable. even in a city as small as iowa city, i can run into drama with another GUY who has the same name as i do.
i got a message this morning from our electric company saying they have some problems with my e-bill account. i set up an e-bill account hoping to pay the electric bill online with the company. our electric bill is under andy’s name and apparently i signed up with my name AND there is ANOTHER YING ZHANG who recently moved into iowa city uses the same electric company as ours. so the ppl there are confused as which account i want the e-bill to be associated with. they asked if i was the other Ying Zhang even tho they said they talked to HIM earlier in the month. well i assured them i’m the girl Ying Zhang and do not live where the guy Ying Zhang lives and have them associate the account with andy’s name.

DAMN Liu Xiang! You make all Chinese esp. Shanghainese overly proud!
The 21-year-old Chinese stormed to the men’s 110m hurdles gold medal before a capacity crowd of 70,000 at the Olympic Stadium in the 28th Olympic Games here on Friday. He clocked a stunning 12.91 seconds to equal the world record set by Britain’s Collin Jackson in 1993.

bubo lost his tooth
August 27th, 2004
bubo lost his first tooth (as far as we know) last night. it worried us at first. then i thought it’s probably just like humans, puppies lose their baby teeth to be replaced by adult teeth. so i look it up online and it is true. comes to think of it, bubo really has strong teeth. one of his small bites was sufficient to make his daddy’s ear bleed profusely. we are trying hard to train him not to bite. but teething puppies love to chew because of the irritation of their gum. i was searching for some tips on how to train puppy not to bite. this caught my attention. we’ve already been doing most of its suggestions but i did not know this:
Puppies use the “arp” with each other to tell each other “enough, you’re chewing too hard.” It is very effective to teach pups in their own language. If you watch puppies at play, you will hear that sound often. It is more effective than a verbal command such as “no” that pups do not yet understand. The “arp” sound is also effective for adult dogs.

first day teaching
August 24th, 2004
i woke up at 1am and never fell asleep last nite so i went to school with my eyes closed. but i did have enough excitement and energy to keep myself awake during the section. it went very smoothly. the toughest part is to figure out how to prounce all those weird last names during the roll taking. it’s inevitable to misprounce people’s names. somewhat embarrasing for me but if they have a unique name, it’s probably not their first time to hear it misprounced.
i even get to substitute for another TA the FIRST DAY of teaching. GO ME XP
i have another section tomorrow at 8:30am. it will be the same old thing but at least i have more experience now. i keep forgetting to mention some minor details coz we have a lot to cover on the first day.
oh yeah when i’m finally done today, i was so tired that i almost fell asleep on the bus. so when the bus arrived at my stop, i just sat and stared at the door. finally i jumped up and realized i had to get off. the driver closed the door right when i was half way through the door. so my backpack got jammed in the door. the driver was ready to drive off until someone yelled for me to have the door opened again. what a dork i am @_@ hopefully that will not happen tomorrow.
tomorrow is bubo’s 5 months BIRTHDAY. my little puppy is about 6.5lb now. WOW compared to 2.1lb when we first got him, he’s a monster now. that poopie is obessed with licking my nose and chewing my hair. is every pet obsessed with HAIR? andy’s cat (now his bro’s) was just like that. once they get a hold of hair, they will be in hair heaven and never want to separate themselves from it.
