MY GOD :(

i can’t believe it! i just finished my second calc III midterm. the teacher let me check out the answers after i finished and i did well on most of the problems except the second last problem. i did way more than expected on the problem!! in another words, i did NOT do the problem the way it was asked but a harder WAY! and i know i did it right but i WILL NOT get full credit because i did it the wrong way. *sob* *sob* i did more work for less credit. slap slap slap :( :(

and i missed my bus home. i’m stuck here at the lab for another hour. i left my wallet and my pencil at the unix lab when i was studying for the test earlier. then after i finished, i went to the bus and realized my wallet was gone. i went back to the unix lab to find them. thank goodness they were STILL THERE!! that was the luckiest part of my unlucky nite.

news on the weekend. i got my new harddrive last week. it seems like installing a new window won’t be much problem. but because we moved two times, some of the cds came with my other hardware are misplaced. i will need driver for my digital cam, my tablet :( can i find those drivers elsewhere? TIPS PLEASE! i also got botsoak’s cd. THANK YOU BOTSOAK! you are awesome!

andy got a new ps2 game for us. it’s called legend of mana. it’s a very cute and fun role playing game. but the two player function of the game is very limited :( we are finishing on the Spyro.. andy’s having some trouble beating the END BOSS - Gnasty Gnorc!! it’s so hard. there’s no room for a single mistake.

mathlab problem

i got a new mathlab problem today. it’s a little more challenging than usual. i hope i did it right. anyone wants to check my work?

i’ve been bombarded with school work. the algorithm homework is so hard. i was thinking about it all nite even in my dream. i finally figured something out. i will have to ask the teacher today. but that’s only one of the three problems.. argg :( second calc III midterm next monday. that sounds so wonderful. i have to write a 7 page paper this weekend along with finishing up the calc III homework, numerical analysis homework and algorithm homework of course :( i’m dying…

this page is actually pretty decent on explaining my name. the specific Ying in my name means “bright” in chinese.. actually with the four different tones associated with Ying, it can mean a lot more than those listed but i do believe those are the most common ones.

calc III midterm

boo ya! I beat paul on my calc III midterm by 3 points (it is out of 100) and got A+ on it ;) i’m pretty happy now.

btw, if you own ps2 and haven’t played the game crash bush, you really should. we played with my god brother til 1am!!!!

learned in calc yet?

i don’t remember learning this in my calc class at all.. but now i will remember it forever since it’s such a help in my numerical analysis homework. i find it extremely amusing.

ideas?

the answer is f(x).. too simple huh? i really love it ;)
i did good on my calc III midterm today. the teacher actually let us looked at the keys after the exam. i missed one problem which i thought was a hard problem. draw a contour graph of z=(x^2+1)*y.. i could only come up with a upside down parabola. of course it’s not a parabola to begin with.. doh =P

woohoo

it’s final ;) I’m getting a web design project at school for the social work department. the design sounds easy. just give you an idea how much those people know about the webpage. they asked me to please do not lock the pages (btw, this is pure html). they wanted it so other people may edit the webpages later. i was like.. sure… ;)

i’m getting $12/hour and it sounds like 80 hours is a good time for them hehe…

digs math for gold

clickcan you believe i actually feel calc III is my easiest math class this semester? so far anywayz.. isn’t taylor polynomial sweet? will you like to do my homework. for example, today we have to prove how f(n) is theda of g(n) when the limit of f(n)/g(n) is a, as n goes to infinity, where a > 0. i swear my calc III homework last nite was so much easier. at least my homework for algorithm and numercial analysis are not due until 9/19. i will have some time to dig around for gold LOL

on the other hand, i really love the program we are using for calc III. maple rocks! so does matlab. i think taylor polynomial is so much easier with matlab. how about graphing 3D and you get to rotate the graph whatever way you want? yummm :9

at least i don’t have to cook today. hehe.. andy forgot to take his lunch today so i get a freebie. he will just take today’s for tomorrow. anyway, you probably won’t see me online too much these days.

yesssss GraphCalc rocks!

My first assignment for calc III includes a problem where we try to match the two variable equations with their graphs without a calculator. i dont even know where to start. thank god Paul gave me some hints and he found this awesome free graphic calulator online that does SO MUCH cool stuff. i’d really recommend you to try it out even if you won’t take calc III in your life. 3d graphs are SOOO cool LOL

check out some screen shots. here are some of the equations i have to figure out in my first assignment. you can try to graph them =)

z = cos(sqrt(x^2+y^2))
z = sin y
z = -(1/(x^2+y^2))
z = cos x)^2*(cos y)^2
z = sin (x^2+y^2) / (x^2+y^2)
z = cos(xy)
z = abs(x) * abs(y)

you ask why?

I talked to the people today and the class Modern China i took last semester didn’t fulfill Historical Perspectives for GE but only fulfills Foreign Civilization and Culture. Let’s evaluate the validity for this.

Here are the definitions for the requirements published.

Historical Perspectives -
Courses in this area help students understand a period of the past in
its own terms, comprehend the historical processes of change and
continuity, sharpen their analytical skills in the evalution of
evidence, and develop their ability to generalize, explain, and
interpret historical change.

Foreign Civilzation and Culture -
Courses in this area promote better understanding among students of
their own culture through comparative analysis with others; provide
students with some knowledge about one or more foreign civilizations,
cultures, and societies; and foster international and intercultural
understanding.

Here are the course descriptions for the two classes for Chinese history. The first one doesn’t fulfill Historical Perspectives but only Foreign Civilzation and Culture (the one I took), the second one fulfills both.

Modern China 1600s to 1920s

- This survey of modern Chinese history begins with the decline of the Ming dynasty and the conquest of China by Manchus in the 1600s, followed by the glorious years of the Qing (Manchu) dynasty in the 1700s. In the 1800s, social problems brought huge internal rebellions. Western encroachments weakened China further, ending the dynasty in 1912. The new government of the Republic of China was accompanied by efforts to create a new culture and by new political parties. The course ends with the rise to power of the Nationalist Party and its bloody split with the Communists in the 1920s. Readings include translations of original sources. No previous knowledge of China is necessary. The instructor is Arkush.

Civilizations of Asia: China

- This course provides an introductory survey of Chinese history and civilization from its origins to the present day. Students explore Confucian philosophy, Buddhism and Daoism, art and literature, the writing system and calligraphy, the imperial political system, family and women, foreign encroachments, 20th-century revolutions, and Chinese society today. Readings include history, fiction translated from Chinese, and biography. No previous knowledge of China (or of Chinese) is required. Although the primary class format is lecture, students work on writing and discussion skills. The instructor is Arkush.

I’ve already emailed the intrustor for some insights about this decision. I also plan to write to the Reviewers to get the first class to fulfill Historical Perspectives.

ARRG!

Not too busy but i will be preparing andy’s lunch box every nite since he will spend everyday at a different city for school and almost every nite at kfc working. i’ll be responsible for his meal. i will take this responsibility seriously.

i purchased my textbooks today. I spent $300. that doesn’t even include a textbook for my Algorithm class which I will borrow from my friend Paul. Does it suck or what?

anyway, i’m keeping my distance from the net. i’m not getting on the net much at nite. and if I do, i make sure i get off before 10pm. why? i just want to spend more time cooking, exercising and spending time with andy :) hope you don’t mind.

4.0!!

YAY, i just checked my grade, i got a 4.0 this semester
A in computer organization and hardware (2 points from an A+ ;_;)
A in interpretation of literature
A in modern china
A in principle of chemistry

altho i hoped for something better than 4.0 but i guess 4.0 is a ok grade :)
