yummi yadda…

my interpretation of literature class is cancelled today. what a relief! i finished my paper. i let the teacher read my second draft and he said it’s fine. i wanted to ask him did that mean i will get an A. i held it back. it won’t sound too good, would it? but he said everything looks good that i don’t need to revise it any more. does that mean i will get an A? hmm.. i’m very suspicious because in my Rhetoric II class, i let the teacher read my draft and she said it was fine, i ended up getting an A- anyway. that really pissed me off. i hope this time i will get an A.

another GREAT news: my father got a letter telling him i will get my greencard in three weeks!! WOOHOO!!! after all six years of waiting and stuggling, i will finally get my greencard!

i watched andy’s father’s wedding video last nite. i saw the seven year old andy. gosh. he was so adorable… awwwwww……. i just wanted to hug him. he was picking his nose while the priest was giving his LOOONG speech. LOL

i opened my second online store today. design by ecila. i hope to buy her something to thank her for the design. go buy something. it’s very colorful ;)

did you see my new webcam photo? i accidentally overwrote the last one (the hello kitty lip balm one). i need a better webcam!!! i can’t stand this one. it’s so dark and yucky, i don’t understand why i bought it ><

it’s the studying day today.. i will throw myself into sea of books the rest of the day. andy will join me after work since it’s his midterm week as well. i will attend a review section for chemistry tonite. no more online time for these days :(

classical duck

I’m a classic duck. i want to be a girlie duck, it’s cuter =P oh well.

it’s pretty boring today. i got 19.5/20 on my computer organization and hardware midterm. man, i’m so mad, i still made this tiny mistake. it kept me from getting perfect *grrr* i dont know if i want to call it a stupid mistake. since that problem gave some extra information to throw you off intentionally.

i went to chemistry lab and talked to my TA about some questions i had when i did the practice exam. i will be working in half hour and will read the text book for my modern china class. that’s all.

woohoo!!!

i got an A for my book review for Modern China and A on the last quiz about the May 4th movement. I’m so happy!! It makes me much more confident about the upcoming test next week. I will have to take Chemistry as well as the Modern text next week. Then spring break will be here the week after. I won’t be able to rest much during spring break though. i will most likely try to finish the next book report for Modern China, work on the project for softlead and work in the computer lab. still i’m looking forward to the break as i will work hard to prepare for the tests!

CO test

i just finished my computer organization and hardware test. it was as easy as it sounded. all the problems were expected. but i’m still scared coz easy tests are usu. the ones i do bad on. i can ALWAYS ALWAYS come up with some stupid mistakes out of nowhere to bring down my score. i finished the test in half an hour and i spent the rest of the time checking and checking until i memorized all the problems and answers. sigh… that still doesn’t mean i will NOT make stupid mistake coz i always do grrr. oh well, at least i tried my best.

andy drank A LOT last nite. eek, i didn’t like that >< but i guess i could tolerate that since it’s his birthday. he’s got another three bottles sitting in the fridge. i will get on him if he doesn’t stop.

i wrote him a poem for his birthday:

Hero
I hope you see the thank in my heart
It’s the most inner part

The love we own
Leaves its print in stone

The decision you make
Leads to the pride you take

It’s original, translucent
Could also be sharp and nonideal

Honey, you are 21 today
Look back
To celebrate
Look ahead
To be prepared

Life matures you
Love guides you

Balance your path
As the clock tick tick

It sorta summed up what was going on in the past few days. Well i guess he liked it since he kissed me after reading it.

happy!

i’m happy. i just went to writing center in the history department. the teacher there read my draft and praised my book report. she gave me some very helpful suggestions in how to improve my paper which i adopted in my last revision. now i posted it online as one of my school writings. it’s a little long and could be a bit boring if you are not interested in Chinese women history.

then i went to register office to get myself listed double majored in math. i went to the math department later and met my discrete structure teacher on the way, he volunteered to be my advisor. i was like YESSSSSSSSSS!!! he’s such a great teacher and person. he showed me a lot more than my other stupid advisor. i love how it turned out.

to get a BS degree in math in UI is actually quite easy if you are already planning getting a BS in computer science. Essentially there will only be THREE extra required courses you will need to take according to the program C. These are Calculus III, Introduction to Abstract Algebra I, Statistics. I can fill the rest with my electives in CS!

Another thing that makes me happy is that the interpretation of literature midterm paper doesn’t sound as bad as i think. the teacher passed out the instructions for the paper in class today. there are couple choices for topics. one of them is about the story we discussed today in class. and that’s the one i’m gonna write about. i already have a brief outline in my head. I will probably get a head start this weekend and get some help from the teacher next week and hope to do a good job on it. it looks pretty straight forward =)

i also found my classmates in my elementary school (in china) online!! WOO HOO. their class message board has even more participants. now i’m so happy. i just left them a message, will try to call some of my old friends later *hehe*

double major

i’m contemplating about the idea of double majoring in math. this way i will spend 5 years here and meanwhile waiting for andy. from what my friend paul said, there are only two more required courses that i will have to take in order to have a major in math. i can basically fill the rest electives with the computer science courses i took. that’s not too bad for another degree. i might just well declare that today since there will be no obligation whatsoever.
i got a reply from dana today, i’m pretty sad. i suppose there’s a lot going on in her life right now and she’s changing faster than she can handle. she’s talking about moving away from the board and my sites. i totally understand that but i just feel kinda sad. i suppose i do care a lot about people on my board. i never took their admiration for me for granted. i hope she will be doing better in her search for herself. i’m wishing you the best, dana!

job fair

I went to the job fair at UI today. I modified my resume last night and asked andy to buy the special paper (cheapest cost like $8 per 100 sheets) to print my resume on. I printed out five copies and wishing to have a good time at the career fair. When I went there, there were only two kinds of companies, one for sale men and the other is something I never would have thought of. They were camps! CAMPS, why is that? I still don’t understand, who cares about camps? Grr, I was so disappointed. Out of the 100 companies, they weren’t a single one that was looking for computer programmer or web designer. So much for summer intern. I will go back to China anyway.
I came home and slept for two hours. I did the master chemistry homework and guess what? I passed my first time thru. WOOHOO. I had to do 4 times last time. I’m so happy it’s over with now.
I still have a 3-5 page book report due next Wednesday and programming assignment due Thursday. So have to work hard but I will have time to put up all the new themes I’ve got for the board =)

work

most news about me are about my works. i finally finished my client’s site. yes i did the shopping cart script. i’m proud. I hope it works. but she has to try to order something with her credit card to really tell.
i also worked on the board for a bit tonite. i know i should probably do my homework instead >< grr.. but here’s what i’ve got. oh yeah, i don’t have a secret valentines, but veronica mad eme a blinkie anyway, how sweet of her, it’s very cute too

how’s everyone else’s secret valentines so far?
oh yeah, chinese new year is here.. daynah sent me a gift
click
i don’t have time to make gifts for others now >< tomorrow i will be stuck with my homework.. grr.. i will try to do a better job greeting others. i feel bad!

lab monitor

lab monitor job is a such a babysitting job. fortunately i am paid well. i got an email from the interview i went last Friday telling me they are willing to offer me the web assistant job but guess what? they only want to pay me $7.50/hour. THAT’S CRAZY for a job like that. I get $7.75/hour for just babysitting people and sitting around. I can’t believe they were expecting someone with experience to do such a job with that little money. it will probably be good experience for me to take that job but it’s way too shabby! oh well, i suppose it’s over now.

yesterday my dad dropped off some mails for me. i finally got sarah’s card for christmas which was postmarked on Dec. 15th. I have no idea why it took SOOOOO long to get to me. maybe my mom was holding on to it? confused :( anyway, thank you sarah! your message is so sweet. daynah, i still haven’t received the stuff you sent for my birthday ><

secret valentines is coming up on my board. 61 people so far signed up. not as many as for secret santa, i hope we will get less “not giving gifts” incidents too. i will send out the emails tonite. have fun =)

YESSS!!!

i added it! i finally added it. i added the class i want. Computer hardware and organization section 1. i’ve been trying so hard and it had been a total frustration until today.

when i found out the “Computer Organization and Hardware” class section i’m enrolled in is overlapping twice a week with my Modern China class, i thought switching to section 1 is simple. i didn’t know it would cost so much worries and troubles. when i went to section 1 last thursday and when i asked the teacher about adding the course, he just said “keep coming”. he didn’t tell me there’s a long waiting list for his class or the fact he’s only allowed to have certain number of people in his class. i thought everything was fine and went got the book. i didn’t think there will be difficulty, silly enough, i didn’t even keep the receipt for the book i bought.

this tuesday when i went to the class and trying to add it again. the teacher showed me and several others his LONG waiting list. and he claimed he could only have 39 students since the fire code of UI said there can be no more than 40 people in the room he teaches. and he added everyone on his waiting list and total of 39. i was not on his waiting list. i still don’t know how those ppl got on his waiting list. i can only add that class if someone drops which is unlikely to happen. next monday is the last day i can add/drop a class without paying. i was stumped. i didn’t know what to do. i turned to my advisor for options. (my first time seeing/talking to my advisor) he’s a professor from india. i told him my situation, he turned around asked “ummm, what can i do?” WHAT CAN YOU DO? you suppose to help me idiot! grrr.. right a way i knew i was not gonna get much help from him. there are so many wonderful professors in cs department, how did i get him as my advisor >< so i thought my only option is to add another cs class. "computer language concepts" is the only class i can take that fits my schedule. meantime my advisor agreed to talk to the teacher who teaches hardware section 1 class to see if he can do anything to make the teacher add me to the class. i left tuesday hoping he could carry out his promise and perhaps giving me a chance to get in that class.

wednesday i went to his (my advisor) office again to ask for results. it turned out he HASN’T talked to my hardware class teacher YET! by this time i told myself that i had to handle this soly on my own. my advisor is really not taking this seriously. i went to my hardware teacher’s office later of the day. he insisted he couldn’t add me coz he couldn’t break the fire code. he wanted to check on the fire code thing again by calling someone. but the person whom he wanted to talk to was not there at the time. i told him i REALLY REALLY want to add that class. i already bought the book and if anyone drops or if he has any new information, please let me know. he couldn’t promise anything but he agreed to let me know if anything happens. i left his office heartbroken. at that time my situation was all a mess.
1. i can not go back to my first section. the overlapping will not do me any good.
2. i can probably add that “computer language concepts” class but it would mean i’ve already missed a week and half of the class.
3. i can not just drop the class altogether coz i need to maintain 12 hours of credits to be a full time student.
4. i can not wait til someone drops or anything happens to add the new hardware class section coz the “computer language concepts” class is on the same time as my hardware class which means i’d better go to the “computer language concepts” class if i knew i can’t add the hardware class. so i don’t keep missing classes in “computer language concepts” class.

so today instead of going to hardware class, i went to the “computer language concepts” class. i had the class added and guess what? the professor who teaches that class is a first year foreign professor. NO ONE understands his English. i mean seriously!!! he can’t speak much ENGLISH. HOLY COW.. i was so disappointed. i can’t imagine what would it be like to have his class for the rest of the semester. in comparison, my hardware teacher is SO MUCH better. my hardware teacher is also better than the teacher in my first hardware section. by then i was more than ever so desperately wanting to add this hardware section instead going with that foreign freak. arrrr………

the “computer language concepts” class got off about half hour earlier than the hardware morning section. i waited in the hallway for the hardware section. a student in the “computer language concepts” class told me half of the students in that class dropped the first day of class. even tho he’s the only teacher who teaches that course, ppl still drop like crazy. just give you an idea how terrible he’s. finally the hardware class was over and when i got the news.. i really felt like hugging someone. i was jumping up and down!!!! the hardware teacher found out that fire code actually says there can be 40 students in the class. since he as an instructor is not sitting in one of the seats, he should not be counted.

YESSSSSSS!!!! so i FINALLY added the class i REEEEAALLY want to add =) I’m so happy now and due to the huge snow storm we had last nite my interpretation of literature class was cancelled. WOOHOOO!!! life is good!!
