Now hosted on wordpress.com with the domain mapping upgrade and custom CSS upgrade.

Based on the support they provided, I really hope the guys here would know a lot more about wordpress hosting than my last generic web hosting company and I will have less headaches dealing with all of the down time. I’m just happy I can keep all of my blog entries at one location again. It contains 10 years of posts.

In your theme widget, add the socialvibe widget to your sidebar.
Add the class “thickbox” in any of your links to an image. e.g.

your link or image src
```
To use the gallery feature, use the same rel attribute for multiple image links. e.g.

```

Hosting Drama

Obviously I am nowhere near as actively on the whole personal web world as I used to be. Most of my sites are shut down. The only somewhat active site is this one. Amazingly I still get so much traffic that makes this site top the resource usage sites on the server.

Today I got the following email from my web host hostquack.com:

Hello,

Your account has been suspended due to consuming high resources on our shared server. I would recommend you to optimize your database and php pages in order to utilize server resources properly to see if it works. If this won’t help, I would highly recommend you to have a vps or dedicated server.

Let me know your comment.

Here’s my dilemma: I want to keep using pure-essence.net because well I had it since I met Andy. I do not wish to give up my domain name. But obviously after 10 years, this name gets known and some of my posts get popular. I no longer use it that frequently but I seem to have to pay the price for its popularity. No shared hosting can handle it well any more. I really DO NOT wish to have to spend money on a VPS or dedicated server.

My temporary solution was to optimize my site. I found this wordpress performance enhancement post and followed its suggestions. I turned on WP build-in object cache and installed and activate wp-super-cache plugin. My host agreed to monitor how my site is doing after the tweaks. Fingers crossed.

I spend most of my non-working hours on the pet society game nowadays. It’s a mindless game but trading items make it well addictive.

Update! I hear a lot of problems in this layout with some plugins. I guess this has something to do with your plugin using

clear: left;

clear: both;

in its CSS. I recoded this layout using relative positioning instead of float. This and subpage support have been added in version 1.1.x.

Aw, how sweet! My oriental theme got featured at wordpress themes. That made my day!

Neat, it also got translated in French.

oriental was last updated in Feb 2009, because of this, full compatibility with the latest versions of WordPress cannot be guaranteed. oriental is provided as is, without support and there are no plans for any future updates.

version 1.2.0 – Now compatible with wordpress version 2.7 (threaded comments). Dropping support for IE 6.

Man, I cannot believe how long I’ve been putting off implementing widgets for wordpress. I really want to be able to use those nice widgets although I don’t like the way some of the default ones are styled but I still think it will really make theme creation a lot easier. Here’s a tutorial on how to use multiple sidebars.
