For our three year anniversary, we decided to make each other special lunch boxes for Tuesday, September 9th :) Each lunch box should contain a message of love.

I got the idea to make salmon patties since it is simple and goes well with ketchup. I was planning to write I "heart" Ying all in ketchup on the salmon. Then when I looked at her lunchbox, it seemed like it had a little face of its own. That is what spurred me to create a little face with the food and have the face be part of the message. The nose became the "I" the mouth made a good heart and "Ying" was delicately patched together with green bean pieces on top of her side of buttery corn. I was going to use corn for the eyes too, but then I saw the jar of Jalapenos in the fridge and thought those would work great. I guess that's as much thought as went into it all. |
I first wanted to make sushi for him but since I've never done sushi before I didn't know how well it would turn out. So I decided to stick with something I'm good at and he likes which is shrimp stirfry :) Using green peppers and tomato as words was the plan from the beginning. The cutting turned out a lot easier than I expected. I originally wanted to put them directly on top of the shrimp stirfry but as it turned out, it was a much better idea to put them on top of the white rice for the color contrast. Didn't they turn out to be extremely bright? So to show I indeed has cook the stirfry, you also get a side view and a view of that stirfry in the wok ^__^ |
